Overview

You can decide exactly who can view your Help Center and its articles:

  • Only restrict specific articles: Have a public Help Center, but limit certain articles to your internal team or specific customer segments.

  • Restricted Help Center: All visitors are required to log in to prevent unwanted access and competitors from spying. You can only allow access to specific user groups.

The most common setup is to have a public Help Center and limit access to only specific roadmap views (first option).

Limiting articles to team members or specific user groups

If you want to keep a public Help Center but still control access to certain articles:

  1. Open the article whose privacy settings you want to control

  2. Click on ‘Everyone’ in the top right corner

  3. Choose ‘Team members’ or ‘Segments’ and select the customer segment(s) you wish to give access to.

Learn how to create customer segments here. To use custom attributes (e.g. location, plan, etc.) for segments, you must have synced customer data.

Now, the article:

  • Won't be suggested to people outside the user segment during searches

  • Won’t be indexed by search engines, ensuring only people in the segment will see them in your Help Center

Help Center visitor authentication

To avoid competitors’ spying and unwanted attention, you can make your entire Featurebase Portal (including the Help Center) require visitors to log in. This is done via a private organization.

When users come from your app, the authentication is automatic, so the user experience will not be impacted. Otherwise, they'll be redirected to a regular login page. Once logged in, you can decide who gets access.

For example, you can:

  • Give access only to your company’s employees for a fully internal Help Center

  • Give access only to paying customers

The options are endless because you have full control.

Note: This also limits access to all other parts of Featurebase to only authenticated users, including the Feedback Forum, Changelog, and Roadmap.
