Overview
Value and effort scores help your team compare the expected benefit of a Request with the work needed to deliver it. Your team sets these scores. They are separate from the Impact score, which uses customer ratings.
Choose a scoring method
Go to Settings → Requests → Management → Prioritization
Choose a Prioritization method
If you choose 'Fibonacci', select the Fibonacci scale you want to use
The setting saves when you select it. The same scale applies to value and effort:
Exponential: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16
Fibonacci: A configurable Fibonacci sequence
Linear: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Ten + Decimals: Scores up to 10, including decimals
Tip: Agree on one meaning for each score across your team. For example, a high value score means a large customer benefit, and a high effort score means more work to deliver.
Score a Request
Open a Request
In the Impact section of the Request details, click 'Set value' and choose its expected value
Click 'Set effort' and choose the estimated effort
Click an existing score to change it. Review the Request's Requesters and use customer feedback and company context to support your value estimate. Effort is your team's estimate, so involve the people who would build the Request.
Compare scored Requests
Use the Requests list
Choose Value/Effort as the ordering in your Request view. A larger ratio indicates more estimated value for each unit of effort.
Use the prioritization matrix
Open Requests & Insights → Requests and click 'Prioritize' in the toolbar. The matrix places scored Requests by value vertically, from Not valuable to Very valuable, and by effort horizontally, from Easy to add to Difficult to add:
Higher on the matrix: More valuable
Further right: More effort
Upper left: Higher value with lower effort
Hover over a point to see its Requests, then open a Request to review or change its scores. Requests with the same scores share one point.
Change or disable scoring
Return to Settings → Requests → Management → Prioritization to change the method, or choose 'Prioritization disabled' to turn off value and effort scoring.
Important: After changing the scale, review existing scores so they still represent your team's estimates.
