PinnedHey! Super excited to introduce Automatic AI translations for the help center.
Featurebase can now automatically translate your entire help center, so you only need to write articles in one base language:
Translations in other languages are kept up to date automatically using AI
Protected terms in the glossary & code snippets are never translated
You can always edit individual translations for articles and collections separately
We’re among the first platforms on the market that offers this.
It’s available starting from the Professional plan. Each workspace includes 250,000 free characters per month, then $0.04 per additional 1,000 characters. Learn more here.
You can get started from Settings → Help center → Languages & translation.

Hey, this definitely makes a lot of sense, and we’re planning on doing it, but can’t give an exact ETA yet as we’re fully occupied building out the Live chat & help desk module
Will keep you posted on this post about our plans with it. Hopefully it gets more upvotes, so we can prioritize it even sooner!

“Keeping a bunch of languages up to date is such as daunting task.”
This is the key weakness we identified with our first pilot with the product. It also is impossible to keep versions in sync as there is no link between the 2 languages in terms of when it is updated (and since translations are manual), if they are in sync.
For this feature to work well, we also think a pre-defined sanctioned “Translation Table” is needed so company/product specific terms are always translated 100% correct.

Agree, I've created a feature request for it!

Anyone also needing about live-translating chats? I started a feature-req below:
Automatic translations for chats (if you serve multilingual audiences)

Can we please get auto translations in for each language in the Help Center docs.
I think AI is at the right spot to produce something that works most of the time. You already have the auto-translator, please make this work with the help center.

“Existing translated articles will be overwritten with auto-translated versions from your default language. Manual edits to translations may be lost”
We want AI translations, but we already have a carefully curated database of existing translations. Would those live versions immediately get replaced by the AI translations?
Is there no intermediate ‘draft’ level where we can make sure terms are translated in the preferred manner? Does the AI learn from our own existing context/available materials?

Also, in case of updates, does the entire translation get re-translated or just the blocks where edits were made?

Hey!
No, your existing translations will not get immediately replaced just because you turn on AI translations. The system treats already-existing translations as “manual” content and skips auto-updating those locales, so your curated text stays as-is. You can manually enable auto translations for these articles separately like this:
There’s currently no intermediate ‘draft’ level, and AI doesn't learn from your existing translated content - it would be very hard to reliably support it. But you can insert your glossary terms, as you know.
In the case of updates, the entire article that was updated in the base language gets re-translated currently. Unfortunately, that’s a limitation of the system we use, but to compensate for it, we made the translation 2x more affordable than the next most affordable option on the market! :)
