Learn how comments & replies work and what function do they serve in Featurebase.

Comments and replies help you clarify feedback with your users and engage with those who have shown interest. You can even use them to provide minor updates!

There are two types of comments in Featurebase:

  • Public comments: By default, all comments are public and visible to anyone with access to that board. As an admin, you can also choose to notify upvoted users about your comments.

  • Private comments: Meant for internal communication between Featurebase admins. Your users do not see these comments, and they will not trigger an email.

To make the comment private, just flick the lock switch next to the Publish button 👇

P.S. You can enable moderation as an additional control step before user comments go live:

Email notifications

We'll notify upvoted users via email when an admin comments on a post, or anyone replies to theirs:

  • Admin comments - all upvoted users of the post will get an email

  • User comments - no one will get an email (goes to your Featuerebase inbox to prevent email spam)

  • Replies - only the person being replied to will get an email

  • Mentions - only the person being mentioned will get an email

This ensures that upvoted users are not spammed with unnecessary comments but get notified about comments addressing them or when admins want to clarify something about the idea.

Mentioning users & posts

You can mention all users and posts basically everywhere in Featurebase. This also applies in the comment section. Just type in @ and the name of the user/post and click it.

  • Mentioning users ensures they'll get notified about the comment

  • Mentioning posts can help you easily refer to other posts relevant to the conversation. Users can click on the mention to open the post and see its content.

Editing comments

By clicking the three dots next to a comment, you can:

  • Pin the comment

  • Copy a link to it

  • Edit the comment

  • Delete the comment

  • Make it private

Admins can do all of these actions, while users can only edit and delete their comments.

Sorting comments

Admins can sort and filter comments by different factors: Private, Public, Top, New, and Old.

End-users can only see the Top, New, and Old options.
