1. Creating roadmaps
To create a new roadmap view:
Go to Settings → Roadmap
Click ‘New roadmap’ on the top right
After adding the title, icon, and description, click ‘Create roadmap’
Tip: We like having a separate public roadmap for all our different products so users can only see features they’re interested in. We also have an internal roadmap that’s not visible publicly.
2. Configuring your roadmap settings
To set up your roadmap settings:
Select the base filters that apply to that entire roadmap
For example, we exclude bug reports and irrelevant statuses from the public roadmap.
To create product-specific roadmaps (like in this example), you need to use custom fields during feedback collection and as filters. Alternatively, you can manually tag posts.
Choose the default sorting order
Select whether you want a Column-based or Date-based roadmap
You can also have the same roadmap twice but with multiple views: one with statuses and one with date-based columns.
NB! For the Date-based roadmap, you must manually set ETAs for your posts to appear there. If you’re not big on ETAs for your features, we recommend using a Column-based roadmap.
2.1 Column-based roadmaps
Here’s how & what you can customize on the columns:
Click on one of the premade columns to expand it
From there, you can edit its name, icon, and color and choose the applied filters to that specific column
Customize each column to your liking & create new ones if you wish
The columns can be dragged & dropped to change the order in which they appear.
Tip: Our roadmap shows posts starting from the ‘Planned’ status, meaning we’ve already reviewed them, which helps reduce clutter. We show posts all the way to the ‘Completed’ status so users can also see what we’ve shipped already.
2.2 Date-based roadmaps
For the date-based roadmap, simply choose the frequency of periods you want to show your posts in.
Tip: You can create multiple “same roadmaps” with different timeframes to give stakeholders an option to see your monthly and quarterly plans. Here’s what it looks like.
3. Finishing the setup
To finish the setup:
Choose if the roadmap should be visible to everyone, only your team (admins), or specific customer segments
Then click ‘Save changes’
