Setting up a custom domain
Step 1: Configure your custom domain in Featurebase
In your Featurebase Dashboard, select the 'Settings' tab, and then click 'Custom Domain'. Or simply click this link π
In the provided field, enter your preferred custom domain (For example, feedback.yourdomain.com).
Step 2: Configure your DNS records
Go to your DNS provider's portal. This could be Cloudflare, OpenDNS, Quad9, or another provider.
Create a new CNAME record:
For the 'Name' field, use your chosen subdomain name. You can copy it directly from the 'Name' field in Featurebase.
In the 'Content' field, input 'customdomains.featurebase.app'. Make sure that the address is exactly the same as stated in bold to ensure correct routing.
Add a new TXT record. Copy the 'Name' and 'Content' fields from Featurebase into the corresponding fields on your DNS provider's site.
Step 3: Confirm your changes and finalize the setup
Wait approximately 10 minutes for DNS changes to propagate.
Check the SSL Certificate Status in Featurebase. Once it displays 'Active' in green, your feedback board will be accessible via the new custom subdomain.
Common errors you may encounter:
Not updating your CNAME value to 'customdomains.featurebase.app'
Make sure your custom domains CNAME points to 'customdomains.featurebase.app'
Inserting a bad TXT value during the verification step
During the TXT verification step, you might have copied something wrong. Please double-check everything to see if it's correct.
Your TXT record name should be something like '_acme-challenge.yoursubdomain.yourdomain.com'. Make sure it matches the one shown to you during the setup.
Also, make sure the value of the TXT field doesn't have any trailing spaces and is copied over properly.
Not waiting long enough
DNS changes can take a long time to update everywhere. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do about this.
Depending on where you are you might have to wait more or less. Be prepared to wait more than 10 minutes after every DNS change.
And remember - you can always reach out to us in the live chat if you run into any problems during the setup π
